  • Your most recent passport was issued within the last fifteen (15) years.

If you meet ALL of the above criteria, you can then submit a completed “Application for Passport by Mail” (DS-82).

If you do not meet ALL of the above criteria, you must apply in person.  This passport by mail procedure does not apply for the replacement of lost, stolen, or mutilated passports.

The Application Process:

If you qualify to apply by mail, applications are available online at http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/forms/forms_847.html and at U.S. Embassy Bridgetown, U.S. Embassy Grenada, and from our Consular Agents in Antigua and Martinique.  The passport-by-mail process normally takes four to six weeks.  For maximum security and speed of service, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications and supporting documents by courier service, and to enclose a prepaid courier service airwaybill to be used for the return of the new passport and original supporting documents.

The following items must be submitted:

  • A completed and signed “Passport by Mail” application form (DS-82).
  • Your most recent U.S. passport and, if necessary, supporting documents.
  • Two (2) recent 5cm x5 cm (2”x2”) photographs of the full face with a light background (photo booth machine photographs are not acceptable)
  • A certified check, cashier’s check or international money order for the passport renewal fee.

Personal checks are not accepted.

Lost, or Stolen Passports:

If you lose your passport, a replacement can be issued upon presentation of proof of identity and U.S. citizenship (i.e. original birth certificate with a raised seal, previous passport or photocopy of missing or previous passport, original naturalization certificate).  If you do not have these proofs of citizenship, you must bring with you to the Consular Section an American family member or American friend with his/her passport willing to execute an affidavit attesting to your nationality.  In addition to the ID, two (5cm x5 cm or 2”x2”) photos will be required.  If your passport has been stolen, first report the theft to the local police and obtain a police report.  The report MUST be given to the Consular Officer at the time of the application.
