Public Affairs Office
The Public Affairs Section (PAS) promotes the goals of U.S. Embassy, Bridgetown, of increasing understanding of U.S. policies and cooperation in combating international crime, disrupting terrorist acts, and improving global health. The strategy includes increased visibility of Mission officers, activities, and contributions to support and explain Mission goals and correct the existing misperception the U.S. is not interested in nor does it appreciate the Eastern Caribbean. Through exchange of people, culture, and information we aim to address critical issues facing the region including those of security, economic development and democratic transformation. Headed by the Public Affairs Officer, our six-person team works diligently with other Embassy sections to publicize in the regional press all efforts made to support U.S. - Caribbean cooperation and development assistance, moving forward on the Deliverables as established in the Conference on the Caribbean 2007.
Throughout the Eastern Caribbean we facilitate donations of books and DVDs to public and private institutions including colleges and universities. We sponsor workshops on journalism, life skills assistance in areas where local education and society have not met needs, support HIV/AIDS initiatives aimed at behavioral change communication, peer-to-peer communication and awareness. We fund cultural initiatives that emphasize Caribbean/US ties. We facilitate academic exchanges and interactive dialogs focused on areas of mutual interest, including labor, foreign policy and HIV/AIDS. We maintain an Information Resource Center providing a place for research on all topics to all interested contacts via phone or appointment.
