Consular Information - Visa Services

The Consular Section is open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, except on U.S and Barbados holidays.  The Consular Section is located in the Wildey Business Park in Wildey, St. Michael.  Please note: laptop computers, cameras, cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed in the consular waiting room.

To make the application process as speedy as possible for all our customers, visa applicants paying their fees in cash are asked to bring exact change.

With certain exception, applicants for visitor's visas (non-immigrant visas) must have an appointment.  Applicants for student (F and M), exchange visitor (J), crew (C1/D only), and petition-based work (H, L, O, P and Q) visas do not need an appointment.  For all others, to obtain an appointment, apply online at "NIV Appointment System" which will direct you to fill out the Non-Immigrant Visa Application Form.  When you have filled out the application form completely and a barcode has been generated by the system, you may proceed to make an appointment on line.  Only the Electronic Visa Application Form, filled out on line and printed out with the barcode will be accepted.

Same day visa service is not available except in an extreme documented emergency.  All applicants whose visas have been approved will have their passports returned to them via courier service.   (For further information, see NIV Processing Time.)

Consular personnel are available to answer questions concerning non-immigrant visas by telephone only between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m., and concerning immigrant visas between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.  Applicants with access to e-mail are advised to contact us at ConsularBridge2@state.gov for queries not answered on this web page.

Notice to Users of the DHL Courier Passback System

Effective June 18, DHL courier service fees for delivery of passports and other documents to and from the Embassy has increased, and a fuel surcharge has been added to the price of international deliveries to offset the recent dramatic increases in fuel costs.

The cost of deliveries to any address in Barbados has increased to US$10 (or the equivalent in Barbados dollars).  The cost of international one-way deliveries to destinations within the Bridgetown consular district has increased to US$24, including the fuel surcharge; the cost of international two-way deliveries has increased to US$48, surcharge included.

To help us provide the fastest possible service, customers are asked to provide exact change.

Notice to Visa Applicants

Interest in travel to America continues to grow, and we are already experiencing an extraordinary peak application period this summer.  We look forward to welcoming qualified visitors to our country for tourism, business, study, cultural and other purposes.

As you plan for your trips to the United States, we encourage you to plan ahead to allow us enough time to process your visa before your trip.  This summer, we recommend that travelers begin the visa application process at least six weeks before they plan to travel.  This will ensure that we have plenty of time to schedule your appointment, conduct your interview, review your application, and determine whether we can issue a visa.  Thank you for your cooperation, and for your interest in visiting our country.
